On 15-16 March the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) welcomed 99 students from across Europe (33 high schools in 28 EU member states and 5 candidate countries) to Brussels, to take part in the annual youth event ‘Your Europe, Your Say’ (YEYS) 2018 for the ninth year running.
As 2018 is the European Year of Cultural Heritage, YEYS also focused on culture and chose the theme United in diversity: a younger future for European culture. During intensive debates and workshops designed and facilitated by Prospex, students discussed how to preserve European cultural heritage and increase its appeal to young Europeans. The ideas included important and highly debated topics in Europe such as equality, security and integration, which students argued could be improved through cultural activities. The European pupils aged 16-19 had a chance to discuss the importance of preserving and fostering European cultural heritage with EESC members, experts of cultural heritage preservation and artists. Out of 10 tangible recommendations which participants pitched to EU policymakers, the pupils selected the three most appealing proposals by vote.
Prospex is proud to have supported the EESC in professionally designing, facilitating and moderating this important event, giving a voice to young students and involving them in European decision-making.
