Your Europe, Your Say 2019 took place from 21st until 22nd March 2019 at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels. The EESC welcomed 102 students and 36 teachers from all 28 EU Member States and the five EU candidate countries (Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey).
Drawing inspiration from the European elections that are set to take place between May 23rd and 26th, the event was centered around the main theme “Vote for the future!”, from which three sub-themes were derived:
- What in your view should be done to increase voter participation in the EP elections?
- How can we strengthen representative democracy in the future?
- Which kind of political engagement exists beyond the EP elections, and how would you take part in it?
Through workshops and discussions in small group settings, designed and facilitated by Prospex, the students brainstormed on solutions and devised their respective resolutions. Ideas ranged from creating an EU syllabus on politics and voting to increase knowledge, to increasing the levels of transparency through a website presenting unbiased information, to creating a taskforce responsible for strengthening the connection between the EU institutions and social movements, and many more. A total of 10 resolutions were presented in a plenary session chaired by EESC vice-president Isabel Caño and students voted for their preferred top three.
Prospex is proud to have supported the EESC through the professional design, facilitation and moderation of YEYS 2019 – an event that directly grants agency to young, ambitious students and encourages them to actively deliberate on finding solutions for key issues at the EU level.
