Coauthored by Prospex, the handbook “Developing participatory adaptation plans for river basins” offers a key reference for practitioners, scientists and communities concerned with climate change adaptation. The handbook documents the participatory approach used in the development of adaptive management plans for river basins, relying on the methodologies and experiences gained in the BeWater Project.
In four river basins across the Mediterranean (Tordera – Spain, Pedieos – Cyprus, Rmel – Tunisia and Vipava – Slovenia), stakeholders and scientists took part in interactive workshops, meetings and interviews. The result: a jointly created River Basin Adaptation Plan for each basin.
The handbook contains the lessons learned from these plans, making it a crucial reference and learning tool for all new adaptation planners and their river basins. With chapters dedicated to stakeholder selection, participatory development, implementation pathways analysis, as well as alternative approaches and methods, the content of this handbook provides information and knowledge of the highest level that will help all future research as well as the wider society to better understand and face the environmental challenges of our time.
