With already three pandemics in the first 10 years of the 21st century, the Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF) did not simply want to wait and see until the next one hits us unprepared. Engaging Prospex for a strategic outlook for preparedness for the pandemics and public health emergencies of the future, ASEF brought together a broad range of stakeholders and experts including experts from international organisations like WHO, WFO, UNOCHA, transport and nutrition companies like Lufthansa and Nestle, physician and patient organisations and NGOs such as CARE and the Red Cross.
Together, over the course of 2 years, they developed scenarios that capture the possible outbreaks and environments of the future. In a challenging and highly interactive process designed and facilitated by Prospex, participants explored possibilities that extended to a level that was not imaginable by the stakeholders at the beginning of the project. Against this backdrop, Prospex developed with ASEF and the participants strategic approaches for sectors and a range of key
recommendations, which were put to the Asia-Europe Ministerial Meeting (ASEM), a two-yearly summit between European and Asian state leaders.
